Low Temperature Chillers
Creating Chillers that can cool process fluids in temperatures as low as -40°FSome industrial processes have operating conditions where the leaving fluid temperature is required to be below 35°F. In this condition, it is important to have the right equipment, otherwise the business process could fail. Even though the conditions are less than ideal, this is where low-temperature chillers shine, as these machines are designed specifically to make sure everything runs smoothly.
At Smart Family of Cooling Products, we have a team of technicians and engineers well-equipped with the engineering knowledge, state-of-the-art technology, and the invaluable experience of commissioning and designing low temp chillers in different applications.
Low-Temperature Cooling You Can Count On
The technology we have at Smart Family allows our engineers to create machines that can cool process fluids down to temperatures as low as -40°F. As a testament to this claim, we have chillers (MRU’s – Mechanical Refrigeration Units) in operation across the US and other countries. Some of these units date back to the mid-1990’s!
Two of the most common scenarios that call for low temp chillers are for ice rinks and the cooling of a petrochemical process. Regardless of the voltages, conditions, and other circumstances, Smart Family can design the right machine for your needs. It doesn’t matter if the chiller is to be situated in the wintry plains of Canada or the arid deserts of Saudi Arabia, as our knowledge & craftsmanship can guarantee a fully functional low temp chiller for your application.
Industries and Applications Demanding Low-Temperature Chillers
Our products have reached various parts of this planet. Over the years, we have worked with leading companies from different industries and helped them with their refrigeration and cooling needs. Major companies such as Tyson Foods, Shell Oil, Exxon, Dow Chemical, and Lubrizol among many others – a good portion of which are Fortune 500 companies – still employ our machines in their daily processes.
Low temperature chilling is used across a wide range of industries and applications.
Medical Processing Chiller
Certain medical fabrication processes and storage requires reliable cooling to guarantee safety and effectiveness. When cooling failure isn’t an option, you need a low-temperature scroll chiller you can count on for:
- Transforming various medical ingredients and compounds
- Manufacturing highly sensitive medicines
- Storage of medicines and human tissues for surgery
- Testing of new drugs and procedures in extreme cold conditions
Food Processing Chiller
To guarantee the safety and consistent quality of frozen foods, food processing companies need low-temperature cooling day in and day out. Our low-temperature screw chillers have been put to the test in a range of food-related applications, including:
- Fast freezing of prepared food and meals
- Storage of food ingredients before use
- As part of disinfecting and antibacterial cleaning
Product and Material Testing Chiller
Many types of clothing, materials and equipment need to be tested to -40°F temperatures. Our low-temperature industrial chillers can be used for a wide range of testing applications, such as:
- Automotive and transport equipment verification
- Fabric and cloth cold temperature resistance and protection
- Plastic, rubber and metal strength at freezing temperatures
- Cold temperature performance of coolants, oils and fluids
- Certain metal anodizing applications
Petrochemical Cooling Chiller
Petrochemical manufacturing involves machinery that refines petroleum and produces chemical compounds. Many of the processes require temperature control. Our low-temperature cooling systems are useful to such facilities in several ways, such as:
- Maintaining cold temperatures for chemical processes.
- Chilling equipment after operation to reduce the chance of overheating.
- Keeping chemical compounds safe and preventing a reaction from fluctuating temperatures.
No matter the chemical methods and equipment, our chillers can manage the temperatures and ensure the safety of critical materials. You can even customize our low-temperature chiller systems to your facility’s cooling needs and tie the chiller’s controls into your existing BMS (Building Management System). Both water-cooled and air-cooled chillers are useful in this industry. Our staff can help you make the best decision based on your facility’s application and environment.
Ice Rink Chiller
The slightest temperature change can completely alter an ice rink. A temperature drop or rise will alter the ice’s state, making the surface unsuitable for skating. Rinks should maintain a temperature of around 24 degrees Fahrenheit.
And what makes these units even more specialized is that they need to maintain a very tight temperature difference. This requirement is unique to Ice Rink applications.
To keep a consistent surface for skating activities, invest in a low-temperature cooling system. Ice rink low-temperature chillers perform a range of tasks, such as:
- Updating you on the operation status of the chiller.
- Communicating ice rink temperature and minor fluctuations.
- Controlling the temperature for reliable skating surface.
All chillers are built with premium components and provide quality service for many years. Ensure you know the size of your rink before ordering a chiller. Different chiller classes provide varying cooling capacities. The average classes for ice rinks range from 50 to 200 tons.
Air-Cooled and Water-Cooled Low-Temperature Chillers
We offer two different types of low-temperature chillers. Air and water-cooled chillers rely on different processes and methods for cooling equipment. While some industries can utilize either type, other customers or job locations will only be able to use one or the other based on various factors.
Air-Cooled Low-Temperature Chillers
What makes air-cooled chillers different is that they are a complete, packaged cooling system. You can connect one of these units directly to your process and start cooling. Because of this ease of use, they are the most commonly used chiller system.
These energy-efficient cooling systems provide help to many industries, from food processing to the plastics industry. These systems are excellent at maintaining the temperature of heat-sensitive products. One limitation of air-cooled chillers is that we do not recommend using these units when you require below -30°F leaving fluid temperature.
Water-Cooled Low-Temperature Chillers
As we noted that air-cooled chillers are ‘stand-alone’, water-cooled chillers are not. These units require an external cooling tower to cool their on-board condenser (To learn more about how the refrigeration cycle works, check out this video: https://youtu.be/NctJSZ2ZRs8).
This chiller is space-efficient and energy-efficient, and it operates quietly. It does require a constant source of water from a water tower, which can cause problems in water-restricted areas or locations where there is a lot of debris in the air stream. While some industries cannot use this type of chiller, it is a fantastic option for controlling temperatures and keeping equipment cool.
If you have a need for reliable low-temperature cooling for your industrial application, we have the equipment you need. Our screw & scroll chillers are currently used around the world to guarantee a vast range of processes for many leading companies. We can create custom chilling solutions adapted to your specific cooling needs and find ways to add value to your process with our reliable and efficient low-temperature chillers.
