Soybean Cleaning Process (Oct 13, 2016)
- Cleaning operations consist of removing impurities from the grain mass.
- Cleaning is necessary before artificial drying, storage, marketing or further processing of the beans.
- After arrival, entire product should be cleaned and sorted manually/mechanically to separate the foreign matter, dust, dirt and stone particles, admixture of other seeds, husks, immature, split, shriveled, damaged and diseased grains.
- After threshing, soybeans are contaminated by soil, plant and insect waste, small pebbles, weed seeds, or broken soybean seeds.
- The broken seeds and other impurities slow down the post-harvest processing like drying & lower the yield quality.
- The simplest cleaning method involves tossing the beans into the air, then leaving the wind over beans to bring off the lightest impurities.
- Cleaner-separator machines e.g. motor-driven machines can be used for cleaning large quantities of beans.
